Martinique is a French island in the Lesser Antilles, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. It is an island of volcanic origin and the Mount Pelee is the last volcano still active. The island measures 1 128 km2 and its climate is tropical. Currently, the capital of the island is Fort-de-France. The population is 375 000.
