According to the German Landscape Research, Development and Construction Society (2018) «Green Roof Guidelines – Guidelines for the planning, construction and maintenance of green roofs», green roofs are divided into three different types, depending on use, construction factors and the method used to carry out the work:
Extensive green roofs;
Semi-intensive green roofs;
Intensive green roofs.
Each type of green roofs includes a variety of vegetation forms with flowing transitions and location-dependent differentiations subject to dynamic changes. The types of green roofs play a crucial role in determining both the types of plants chosen and the appearance of the vegetation.
