In Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, a vertical roof garden of over 1492 m² was built. The Spanish city is always attentive to environmental protection and sustainability. It sought to integrate biodiversity and green spaces into the urban environment. His work earned him the European Green Capital award for the year 2012.
The entire surface of the building is covered by about 33,000 plants, all native species, which creates a natural thermal and acoustic filter between inside and outside. The presence of the green wall has greatly optimized the thermal insulation of the Palacio de Congresos.
There is also a LED lighting system along the green wall.
A 270% increase in energy efficiency has been estimated.
